Flashfood app, I discovered this app about a month ago via some article or Instagram post I came across (I am trying to remember exactly where). I thought it would be a great way to save on groceries every month. My food challenge goal for the year is to spend on average $25 a week so I decided to check it out. I purchased a fruit bag for $5 and a $5 veggie bag in my first week.
I brought the food home and began to unload the bags with great anticipation. The feeling is akin to opening Christmas presents as a child or unboxing a grab bag from your favorite craft store. In the fruit bag were about seven apples (there might have been more) of different varieties, four limes, two lemons, a bag of green grapes, and a bag of raspberry oranges. Oh yeah, I forgot, I snagged a 16oz package of Shady Brook Farms ground turkey for $2.49. Not bad for $8.49.
The Flashfood App
The app is easy to navigate. Just enter some personal information, and you are ready to start searching for goodies in your local area. The search page is where you will find local stores with items sold on Flashfood. You will find all sorts of wonderful items on sale, and a good thing a bout the app is you pay for the items ahead of time, which makes staying on a budget a lot easier! The app is available in the Google Play Store or the Apple Store; both are free to download.
Food Quality
Quality can vary from purchase to purchase. My first order (mentioned above) had a lot of damaged items (I did expect that); some of the apples had minor dents in them, but most of the raspberry oranges were beyond edible (oh well, I took a chance). The grapes, lemons, and limes were excellent. The ground turkey was within days of store expiration; I froze it since I had no intentions of cooking it immediately.
I gave the app a second go-round, and everything was on point! I didn’t see anything wrong with it. Saving on groceries each month was a huge win! The apples were minimally dented, and the oranges were just as juicy as if I had paid full price. The bell peppers (sorted colors) were nice and firm (no wrinkles here!) The yams and potatoes were solid. The packaged vegetables were fresh, and I scored all this for $10, not to mention the discounted meats that were an absolute steal! Psst, the store associate let me in on a little tip. Buy your meat products from the Flashfood app on Mondays, as the overstock ordered from sales for the previous week will be available.
If you want to save money grocery shopping, consider the Flashfood app. I have used it many times now, and I love it. It’s like going on a treasure hunt every week, and who doesn’t like a treasure hunt that helps you save?
Update:
I no longer use the Flashfood App as much as I did when I first discovered it. It fact, I haven’t used the app at all during the last several months. I know the question of why is floating around in your mind. Here is the simple skinny: The variety of items offered began to slow and more importantly the price increased on most items, so it was no longer a bargain. At least not to me. Flashfood App is definitely not to blame. The high cost of inflation is. Check out this article to learn how you can combat the rising costs of everythin
I haven’t received any compensation to promote any business I will review including the Flashfood App. I should be, though, and if you are a business I am reviewing, please holla at your girl! I’m not above being paid!
Never heard of this app. I will be looking into this.
I discovered it a few months back. It’s not everywhere, but if you find it in your neck of the woods make sure you try it out at least once and tell us your thoughts.
