The Best Fresh Homemade Salsa You’ll Love

There is a debate in my house about whether fresh homemade salsa or store-bought salsa is better. We love salsa in my household, and in my fashion, when I find we eat a lot of something, I figure out how to make it myself.

I had to search the internet streets for the best fresh homemade salsa recipe. After looking and looking, I found it!

Once you make this fresh homemade salsa, you’ll never go back to store-bought. It’s a perfect balance of tangy and spicy, with a chunky texture that’s just right. And the best part? It’s incredibly simple, quick, and easy, with only six ingredients, five if you don’t add salt.

Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 15 minutes Total Time: 25 minutes

                                                       Yield: 1 1 /2 cups

INGREDIENTS

  • 10 ounces Roma tomatoes, quartered ( about 4 tomatoes)
  • 1/2 medium white onion, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 1 small jalapeno, ribs, and seeds removed and roughly chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro (about a palmful)
  • Juice of 1/2 a lime ( I used whole lime)
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, or more to taste

Cooking the salsa helps reduce the water content of the mixture.

INSTRUCTIONS

Place everything but the lime juice in a blender or food processor. Pulse several times until the tomatoes break down and the mixture is a little chunky. Transfer the mixture to a nonstick skillet.

Heat the salsa over medium-high to high heat until it starts to bubble. Lower the heat and simmer it for 10 to 15 minutes or until it has thickened. Depending on the size of your skillet, this may take more or less time. The easiest way to tell when it’s ready is to drag a spoon or spatula across the bottom of the pan. You should see the skillet’s bottom for a few seconds before the salsa runs back over it.

Turn off the heat, add the lime juice, and stir. Transfer the salsa to an airtight container and chill it for several hours before serving, ideally overnight. This will allow the flavors to develop fully. Makes approximately 1 1/2 cups

Well, I guess you know where I stand on the debate by now.😄
