Montego Bay, Jamaica Review

I didn’t love Montego Bay like I thought I would. This Montego Bay, Jamaica review might be slightly skewed as the reason for traveling to Jamaica in the first place was less than desirable, which may have put me in a salty mood. Jamaica is ABSOLUTELY beautiful with its lush green landscape. I have nothing to say about God’s handiwork on this island, but he could have put a muzzle on the rude people. Lord, God, are they rude! Needless to say, Jamaica is not at the top of my favorite islands.

Undoubtedly, the hospitality of my friend’s mother, whom we stayed with for three days, was impeccable. She is an absolutely amazing cook, and most of the ingredients she uses are grown right in her backyard. Such a sweet little lady!

Living in the States affords an individual a different type of life, and the difference in the standard of living is quite noticeable. Certain amenities that we are afforded in the U.S. that we take for granted, like having continuous running water or air conditioning. If you are going to Jamaica, I would advise staying at a resort rather than at someone’s home. At least there, the locals have to be nice to you. Check out the resort that we stayed at here.

Let me tell ya sumting dem Jamaican potholes are not to be played with ya hear me! I will never complain about a pothole in the U.S. again! Jamaican potholes are the size of craters, ya hear what I say? Craters! I exaggerate not! My poor back is still healing from them!

5-Day 3 Travelers

Cost

Season: Winter – November (off-season)

Flight: American Airlines $553 round trip (each) from Boston, MA.

Lodging: Partial stay with friends family & resort stay $1,000.

Transportation: $600 (locals bleed you dry on the price to get around). Which consisted of a two-hour drive each way from the airport in Montego, Bay to my friend’s home in Mandeville.

Food: All-inclusive at the resort/My friend’s mother fed us abundantly.

Price Per Person

The total cost of the trip was approximately $3,260. Our tab was just under $1,100 each. I opened an American Airlines credit card to take advantage of the $200 statement credit, bringing my total trip costs to about $900.

Considering we made all plans within 8 days of travel to attend a funeral, I would say that our price was not that bad. I do believe that if the trip is properly planned, it may turn out to be less expensive, especially the price of airfare.
