Melt in Your Mouth Homemade Shortbread Cookies

Homemade shortbread cookies are one of my favorite treats to make and enjoy. They are simple, buttery, and delicious. They only require four basic ingredients: confectioner’s sugar, butter, all-purpose flour, and granulated sugar. You can also customize them with different flavors, toppings, or shapes. In this blog post, I will show you how to make these easy and yummy cookies in just a few steps.

Ingredients

– 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

– 1/2 cup confectioner’s sugar

– 1/4 teaspoon salt

– 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

– 2 tablespoons granulated sugar for sprinkling

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 325°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Mix the butter, confectioner’s sugar, and salt in a large bowl with an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.

3. Gradually add the flour and mix until a soft dough forms. Refrain from overmixing, or the cookies will be tough.

4. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Cut out shapes with your favorite cookie cutter and place them on the prepared baking sheet. You can re-roll the scraps and cut out more cookies until all the dough is used.

5. Sprinkle the cookies with granulated sugar and bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until lightly golden around the edges.

6. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

7. Enjoy your shortbread cookies as they are, or decorate them with icing, chocolate, nuts, or whatever you like.

Tricks and Tips

Use good quality butter and measure your ingredients accurately for best results.

Add vanilla, lemon zest, or almond extract to the dough for extra flavor.

To store your shortbread cookies, keep them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
