Looking back it’s hard hard to believe that my failures led to my passion. Analyzing my journey I now realize that the failures were important for developing my character and steadfastness, which led to my ultimate success. I’ve stopped and started a lot of business ventures. Too many for me to recollect every one of them. I’ve tried making cigar purses, hair accessories, podcasting, and many other things. Every year Facebook reminds me of every venture I’ve been attempting to do that didn’t blow up like I wanted it to. Part of the issue was me. I needed to put more time or effort into the project, or I was attempting to do something I needed to improve my skills in, like selling. Another part of the problem was…well, it just needed to be a better business idea. Hey, that’s just what it was.
I’ve never allowed my failed ideas to become the end of my desire to be an entrepreneur. It only fueled my desire to keep searching for that idea that would be the key to my success. The idea would fuel my passion, and if it came down to it, I would do it for free. At first, I never believed that there would be something that would bring me such immense joy that I would consider doing it for free. After all, it takes money to live, not joy. But then, after many failed business attempts, I realized that to sustain my enthusiasm, the business idea would have to be something I loved.
Figuring Out My Passion
Then I stumbled on blogging. I’m not new to the term blogging. I’ve read many blogs for entertainment and educational purposes but did not consider them a way to make money. Growing up, I would write short stories all of the time. I did it because it brought joy and helped me release my creativity. I continued into my late 20s, writing short stories about one-eyed monsters and angelic worlds but, I never considered publishing anything that I wrote.
Later on, I began writing journal entries on how I felt on a particular day. I would crawl into bed and write about the first thing that entered my mind. I’ve written journal entries about how much joy it brought me to take a bath….lol. It was my night-time wind down. It allowed me to release my day and thoughts before I rested for the night. Would I do it for free? I did it for free. Did it bring me joy? It gave me immense pleasure. I am writing blog posts for you about topics that come to mind, and I love it!
Don’t give up just because the first venture didn’t work out. Take the time to assess why it didn’t work out. Was it you? Was it the idea? After you assess, apply that valuable information to the next project and see how far you go. That project may not work out either, but don’t give up. Try again. Create a new idea. Put it into action and learn from it. If you keep trying, one day, you will find the idea that will change your life, and guess what? It will bring you immense joy, and you will gladly do it for free. Ashley Hinds so eloquently stated, “Maybe the start of success is knowing what doesn’t work.”
