Experience the Magic of Olympic Park
One of the most magical places to visit in Atlanta is Olympic Park. Home to the 1996 Olympic Games, this park boasts a fascinating history and awe-inspiring architecture. Olympic Park was a must-see on my list as a dear friend of my mother purchased a brick in honor of my late brother. Stroll through the park and admire the beautiful fountains, statues, and gardens.
For a unique experience, ride on the SkyView Atlanta Ferris Wheel for a breathtaking city view. At the top of the SkyView Ferris Wheel, you can view the entire Olympic Park! What a truly fantastic view! And if you’re feeling adventurous, try the outdoor climbing wall or dip in the Fountain of Rings. It was a little too cool for my bestie and I to dip in the Fountain of Rings, but we reveled in the beauty of it just the same. No matter what you choose, visiting Olympic Park is a must-do when in Atlanta.
Indulge in Southern Cuisine
I am no stranger to southern cooking as my mom, a southern gal, throws down in the kitchen. Atlanta offered that great down-home taste that I am accustomed to. Atlanta’s mouth-watering food, from classic BBQ to trendy farm-to-table restaurants, will leave your palette pleasantly surprised and yearning for more. Don’t leave without trying some of the city’s famous fried chicken or a savory bowl of shrimp and grits. And for dessert, sample some peach cobbler or pecan pie- two Southern staples that will satisfy your sweet tooth. With its diverse restaurant scene, Atlanta is a foodie’s paradise.
But southern cuisine in Atlanta isn’t just about the classics. The city is also known for its fusion of flavors and innovative chefs. Atlanta is the home of a great diverse group of people which lends to the uniqueness of its cuisines; from Korean BBQ tacos to Ethiopian-inspired dishes, Atlanta’s restaurant scene constantly evolves and pushes the boundaries of traditional southern cooking.
And let’s not forget about the drinks. Atlanta is home to a thriving craft beer scene and some of the best cocktails in the South. From local breweries to craft cocktail bars, there’s a libation for every taste.
After experiencing the mouth-watering cuisine in Atlanta, it’s time to delve into the rich history of the city.
Delve into the Rich History of Atlanta
Atlanta is a fascinating city with a rich history that’s worth exploring. This Southern city has been central to some of the most pivotal moments in US history – from the Civil War to the Civil Rights movement. From the Martin Luther King Jr. Center to the Atlanta History Center, there are plenty of historical sites exist to visit. But beyond the museums and monuments, you can also experience history more hands-only by visiting historic neighborhoods like Grant Park or Inman Park. These areas are like time capsules that offer a glimpse into what life was like in Atlanta’s early days.
Get Your Groove on at the Battle of the Bands
If you’re a live music lover like I am looking for a unique experience in Atlanta, look no further than the Battle of the Bands. This annual event is held at the Mercedes Benz Stadium and showcases the talents of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). You’ll have the opportunity to witness up-and-coming bands compete for the title of the best band in the Honda Battle of the Bands.
Feel the energy of the charged atmosphere while watching draw-dropping formations and awe-inspiring artistry as bands perform new and old-school music while creating unique formations.
After a night of listening to some fantastic music, you’ll leave Battle of the Bands feeling energized and inspired. And who knows? You could say you saw Atlanta’s next big thing before they hit it big. So get ready to get your groove on and experience a side of Atlanta that’s not to be missed.
