Clearing Out to Stay Focused

Yesterday was such an awful day. Nothing went right! My ability to stay focused was at an all time low. All my plans and intentions quickly evaporated as I ran into problem after problem at work. I had planned to accomplish so much, but by the end of the day, I had completed so little. How disappointing it is to see the fruits of your labor turn into pure nothingness. Disappointed is an overstatement of how I felt yesterday.

I arrived at work today a little defeated but determined that today would be better than yesterday and that I would stay focused. Sitting at my work desk, I thought, “How can I set myself up to succeed?” I quickly jumped to my email inbox and observed all the emails sitting there.

What I Did to Clear OutThe first thing I would do to feel accomplished was to clear out my emails. One by one, I read the title and skimmed the content to determine if it was safe to delete the message. After an hour, I cleared 50% of my emails! By the end of that hour, I was feeling good about my ability to get things done! I could see what needed my attention the most and what could be delayed. Brain Dumping to Stay Focused

Another great method to stay focused is by brain dumping. I often utilize this method when I am feeling overwhelmed by the amount of tasks that need to be completed in a short period of time.
